Signature Campaign

SIO BASAVAKALYAN Unit Organise a Signature Campaign on # Where Is Najeeb

Justice for Najeeb
Safety for Muslim Students in educational institutions
Signature Campaign and Memorandum
to National Commission for Minorities

To,
The Chairperson
National Commission for Minorities,
5th Floor, Lok Nayak Bhavan,
Khan Market, New Delhi 110 003

We demand,
1. Justice for Najeeb Ahmad
Najeeb Ahmad, a Muslim Research student of School of Biotechnology, Jawaharlal
Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, hailing from Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. He was
assaultedby a gang of Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad(ABVP), the student wing of
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), at his room No.106, Mahi-Mandavi Hostel,
Jawaharlal Nehru University and later kidnapped on 15th October 2016. Almost three
months after Najeeb Ahmad went missing from campus, the Jawaharlal Nehru
University administration and the Delhi Police have been inactive and biased on finding
and ensuring justice to Najeeb and punishing ABVP culprits. Najeeb’s mother as well as
the student community have been protesting to bring back him and to seek justice for
him. We demand justice for Najeeb Ahmad through immediate and effective
investigation.

2. Safety for Muslim Students in educational institutions
Muslim students feel intimidated and threatened in universities even by their mere
presence. Meanwhile they are traumatized and in a state of fear in the context of rising
Anti Muslim atrocities across the country and even universities are not much safe and
secure for them to ensure their right to life and right to education. The attack on Najeeb
Ahmad is clearly a hate crime and assault motivated by hostility towards minorities,
especially Muslim students pursuing their studies in higher educational institutions. The
atmosphere created by leaders of the ruling party at the Centre at different levels is the
context in which such crimes are occurring. We demand appropriate action to ensure
safe and secure atmosphere for minority students in educational institutions.
We request you to be a part of this campaign by signing the memorandum to
National Commission for Minorities.
We hope your kind participation and cooperation to ensure Social Justice in our
country.
