Letter to press against engineering fees hike

Move to increase the fee & cut in Govt. quota in engineering education is threat to social justice: SIO of India

Students Islamic Organisation of India, Karnataka Zone condemns the decision of Government of Karnataka to increase the fee of engineering education and the reduction of Government quota seats.

The tendency of increasing the fee and reduction in Government quota seats clearly denotes that education sector in Karnataka is under the clutches of private bodies rather than the elected Government.

SIO believes that the education is not the commodity and hence all the efforts to commercialize it should be turned down. Increase of fee and cut in the quota are not mere economical issues; rather it is the matter of social justice. SIO fears that the continuation of current tendency will create the situation where the students belonging to economically weaker sections have to forget the pursuing of professional education.

Poor vision and lack of will power among past & present governments have empowered these private managements to the extent of over ruling of public opinion. SIO demands that Government should act swiftly towards solving this problem by enacting fundamental and comprehensive regulations for these errant private managements so that in future such obstacles do not arise.

In order to protect the interest of society and student community in specific, SIO urges that at any cost Government should not bow to the pressure of private managements.

Yours faithfully,

Riyaz Patel
